Over-the-Counter (OTC) or Non-Prescription Drugs Some pharmacy benefit plans cover selected OTC drugs. If an OTC drug is covered, the generic version of the drug is preferred when it is available. When an OTC drug is covered, the physician must provide the enrollee a written prescription for the medication. When a covered drug is available in identical strength and dosage as both a prescription and non-prescription drug, this PDL includes the cost-effective version of the drug. |
