Search Options
This version of the Preferred Drug List permits the user to search for
a drug by three methods.
- Alphabetical - Select a letter of the alphabet
- By drug name - Enter
the first few letters of the drug
- By drug chapter - Choose from the
menu
When you select a drug from the list, more information about the status of the drug will be displayed. If the selected drug is non-preferred ( ), the display will include other drugs in the same therapeutic class, including the preferred drugs ( ). Physicians are encouraged to use preferred drugs when they are appropriate to treat an enrollee’s condition. Certain medications require prior notification / prior approval, indicated by the PA symbol ( ). The display also identifies if the drug is covered only at the generic level ( ). The dispensing of generic drugs is required, whenever available, except those indicated as brand required. When a generic drug is available for the brand name drug listed in the PDL, the symbol appears, indicating that both the generic and brand name drugs are in the PDL. See the section below for more information about generic drugs.
The Notes symbol ( ) accompanying the entry for some drugs indicates that additional information is provided, including Clinical Advisories, such as, "Use by people 65 and older is associated with increased risk; safer alternatives may be available. If used, dosage should generally be lowered," and Coverage Advisories such as: "Quantity Limitations Apply" and "Prior Notification Required." |
